The CEO, Kenji Kita, chose the name Subaru for it after the Japanese name for the Pleiades star cluster, which is recreated in Subaru’s logo. Subaru has since built a strong, individual brand for itself with an artisanal attitude, focusing on doing a few select things very well with its cars, such as four wheel drive.

This approach has proved very successful in the United States of America. In 2014 alone, Subaru expects to sell over half a million cars.
