Sell My Audi?

Audi’s name famously came from its founder August Horch translating his last name into Latin to get around his previous company owning his name as a trademark. The clever solution was suggested by the young son of founding partner Franz Fikentscher, who was doing his Latin homework in his father’s meeting to decide a new name for the company.

Unconventional ingenuity has been a trademark of Audi ever since. When the company struggled to recover after World War Two and was bought by Volkswagen in 1964, Ludwig Kraus led a team to develop the Audi 100 in secret after being forbidden by their new owners. Once the finished model was pitched to the Volkswagen chief, Heinz Nordhoff, he was so impressed that he allowed production and the model was a huge success, saving the Audi brand. The German company maintains that spirit in its slogan: ‘Advancement through Technology’.
